ODDS AND ENDS

I'm going to make this post short and sweet, but I promise you lots of photos. I thought I would post pictures of my DIY bleached denim shorts, some photos of Francesca, and a few photos of an awesome vintage T-shirt I bought. I hope you enjoy the slideshow.

Shepard Fairey's "OBEY" mural in Harvard Sq. The poor girl is apparently not too popular in the area, and I was disappointed to see the mural in this shape...
X's over the eyes, and SELL OUT on her forehead- come on, a little bit of respect please?

"A Night in the Box"
I met this band outside the train station in Harvard Square. They're from Minneapolis and were traveling around, selling CD's and drawing a crowd. I was walking around Brattle aimlessly when I saw the sea of people standing around these guys, listening intensely and dancing along with the music. I ended up standing there and taking pictures for about 20 minutes. After their little show, I introduced myself to the band and bought a CD- which I usually never do. I can't do them justice with just a brief explanation, so go ahead and listen to them for yourself, you won't regret it.

"A Night in the Box"

I found this T-shirt at Proletariat in Harvard Square. It was $9, and it's vintage, and it's from the freakin Moscow Circus. This is officially my favorite t-shirt on the planet. I love the colors, the print, the loud design, and of course it has a giant tiger on the front of it- do you expect anything less of me?

MOSCOW CIRCUS

MOSCOW CIRCUS. Most amazing vintage find, EVER.

One of my favorite pictures of Francesca. I think the blue polaroid camera really makes it. I love the bright red lipstick and the bright blue camera, the rest of the apartment is so neutral and the lighting made the washed out effect look really interesting. Plus it's so hipster I could die.

LITTLEFACE SNUGGLES

Francesca and her cat, Littleface. You can see the lovely red cheeks from Francesca snuggling with red lipstick. I think they both look good wearing it.

Greatest. Shorts. Ever. They used to be a pair of faded, size 6 Gap Boyfriend jeans from about 4 years ago. I found the jeans in my closet when I went home to visit a few weeks ago, and immediately cut the legs off and threw them on, as is. After realizing that no amount of belting would hold them up, and the cuffs were uneven...I knew that some sewing was in my future. So, I cut the shorts open down the seams on each side, pulled them closer, and re-sewed them from a size 6 to a size 00. I'm pretty proud of my resizing skills, since I expected them to be a huge disaster. After seeing that they now fit really well, I thought "why don't I try and bleach them"
So. Long story short, this pair of shorts are the most successful DIY project I have ever tried. I don't know how to use a sewing machine and I certainly don't know how to size clothes. But the transformation from a pair of baggy old blue jeans to now my FAVORITE pair of shorts (and the best fitting) is freakin amazing to me. Seriously, they fit better than shorts I've bought in the store. I could go on about how proud of myself I am, but I won't. I'm geeking out over them way too hard.

My butt! Hah. At first I thought that I over-did the bleaching, since they came out practically white, but then I looked at them a little better, and they came out really well in certain places, so the whole project doesn't look too bleached. I'm really proud of this photo in particular because you can actually see how the bleaching process came out.

Here's the front again- you can see the colors pretty well, all the photos are really grainy because I had to take them on Photo Booth. Apologies.

Horrible colors, I had to do alot of tweaking so you could see the ruffles on the shirt. I'm a big fan of the frilly tank top with distressed and bleached shorts.

oh thank you, i was worried the whole time i was experimenting with them that i would ruin them, but i guess i just got lucky. i used thicker embroidery floss to sew the jeans back together so it would be stronger, i dont know if you're planning on cutting jeans...
